Just a little stroll

I went out to Charlie Brown’s tonight to meet some friends and it turned out to be a near-perfect evening for a ride to town. I took some of the quiter streets to get there, so there was almost no traffic to be worried about. On my way home I had a nice, brisk tailwind, so I decided to stay out a bit more and ride a few more mile. Altogether I did 26 kilometers today and it felt great

Fixie Music Video

The Band is called Nada Surf, the name of the song is “On whose Authority”. Great song, and I love the messenger story line (ah, sweet memories from a few years ago)

First Long Ride of year

Finally, it was warm enough today to go for a longer ride. I originally intended to go to Chatfield State Park; alas I left home too late. It was a great ride nonetheless. First time out on the bike for more than half an hour, first long ride on my new Surly Cross-Check. I noticed how out of shape I am and secretly felt grateful for the smooth ride of the steel frame compared to The Bitch.

Cycle Jerks

Found this website by pure chance. If you want to check out some of the local bike subculture, this is the place. Who knows, I might participate in one of their alleycats

Update 02/17/08: What do you know, two of their members dropped off a PowerBook for repair at my work yesterday.

My new Cross-Check

The last few months riding the Bitch got me thinking: How about a bike for riding longer distances? Maybe go camping with it in the summer? Something that doesn’t put me into Amok Mode everytime I ride it. I did some research, talked to a few folks and decided on a Surly Cross-Check.

Moonlight Classic 2007

Last night I participated in the annual Kaiser Permanente Moonlight Classic, a benefit ride through Denver. There is two routes and two groups to choose from, needless to say I opted for the longer ride and the “Gonzo” group. It has been a few years since I participated in the last one and I was amazed how popular it has become. There was pretty much every knid of rider there, roadies, recumbents, BMX’ers, messengers, you name it

Monstertrack 07

I recently found this on Youtube. Monstertrack apparently is the largest alleycat race in New York (where else). Watch this video to see some true bike nuts (this is meant as a compliment). I wish I had their guts

Quiet ride vs. traffic assault

It is somewhat of a dilemma for me to go out for a ride, or more precisely where. On one side there are numerous quiet, relaxing routes I can take for some exercise. My other choice is downtown with its high-strung traffic, inattentive drivers (yes that means you too, blonde bimbo in a Porsche Cayenne) and a more hilly environment that I currently like.

Lately, I have been picking downtown. It’s much more exciting, much more dangerous too (I’m thinking of you, Mr. Expensive Suit in a Jaguar That Can’t drive). it’s also not too far from a few choice bars for some instant post-ride gratification

The first step to fame

My new ride is now featured on Fixed Gear Gallery. Great site, great pictures

Riding the Bitch

Today was the first day I took the Bitch out for a real ride. Sure, I was sorta riding it the last few days, but not too seriously. Tonight however was a different story. I got geared up, shorts, helmet, the hole nine yards and went out. Here is what I found out:

I am miserably out of shape. However fast I was thinking I was going, I did so only for a mile or so. I can’t spin high enough to keep the bike moving, I can’t slow down without using THE BRAKE; and people in their f%#$ SUVs pay no attention to cyclists. Still, I did a 2 hour ride. Not sure how much that is, I have a computer but haven’t mounted it yet. I feel sore, yet enlightened: Riding the Bitch, for real, is soothing for the soul
